Grant Supports Health Ministries
The Parish Resource Center, 633 Community Way, Lancaster, recently received a grant of $6,000 from the Pryor and Arlene Neuber Charitable Trust to assist in the continuation of the Congregation Health Ministries Program, which the center offers in partnership with the Samaritan Counseling Center, Lancaster, to aid communities of faith in their health ministries. Funds from the grant will help support monthly programs that meet at the Parish Resource Center, assist with costs for the program coordinator and consultants' follow-up services, and enable the Parish Resource Center to expand its existing health and wholeness library area. The two centers partner to provide the program to area citizens, with the Samaritan Center staff developing and coordinating the programs and the Parish Resource Center providing the meeting site, consultative services, and resources for participants. The Samaritan Centers Ruth I. Stoll, a doctor of nursing science and registered nurse, is the coordinator. The Congregational Health Ministries Program conducts monthly sessions at the Parish Resource Center on topics such as "The Ministry of Healing in a Church," "Living with Chronic Illness," and "Building Healthy Congregations through Health Ministry." Attendees include parish nurses, clergy, care coordinators, Stephen Ministers, older adult ministry coordinators, and chaplains. The program also offers a parish nurse/health ministry basic certificate course, which recently graduated 12 individuals. Open to all communities of faith, the program serves more than 40 congregations with more than 10,000 members.
