H1N1 Resource Site Launched
A new online resource to help Pennsylvanians learn about and help control the spread of the novel H1N1 flu virus, also known as swine flu, has been launched. The Web site was created by the Department of Health to answer questions and provide the latest news on the virus. The Web site currently features an explanation of the H1N1 virus, frequently asked questions, symptoms of the disease, how to care for sick family members, downloadable educational fliers and posters, and links to other resources. The site also includes simple steps that all Pennsylvanians can take to prevent spreading the virus to others. The steps include covering the mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and putting the used tissue in the wastebasket; keeping hands away from the face and not touching the mouth, nose, and eyes; washing hands frequently with soap and water or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer; keeping frequently used surfaces such as knobs, countertops, and desks clean; and staying home from work or school when sick and remaining home until fully recovered. In addition, if a tissue is not available, sneeze or cough into a sleeve, but never into your hands or onto bare skin. A novel H1N1 vaccine is expected to be released. Information about the vaccine will be added and updated on the Web site as it becomes available. For more information, readers may visit the site at www.h1n1in pa.com or call the Department of Health at (877) 724-3258.
