Annual Parade Returns To Bainbridge

By Krista Hurley

The annual Conoy Township Halloween Parade will be held this year on Monday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m.

“We have a new parade route this year,” said Gina Mariani, who is in her first year of organizing the parade. Floats and participants should line up in front of Bainbridge Elementary School, 416 N. Second St., and from there the parade will progress on Second Street to Overlook Drive, travel around the cul-de-sac, and return on Overlook Drive to Second Street. The parade’s route will end at the Bainbridge Fire Company, 34 S. Second St.

Registration will be held on the day of the parade from 6 to 6:45 p.m., and there will be no fee to register.

According to Mariani, one of the changes to this year’s parade will be a new category. In addition to floats, individuals, couples, various walking groups, and groups of youths, there will be a pet category. “That should be fun,” Mariani stated, adding that all animals must be dressed up and must be accompanied and controlled by an individual age 13 or older. Also, all walking groups with three or more marchers have been combined, said Mariani.

There will be prizes given in each category for best-dressed, most original, and ugliest. In order for an individual to participate in the “most original” category, at least 50 percent of that individual’s costume must not be a commercially purchased, complete costume. A Judges’ Choice award winner will also be selected. “We are going to be judging as they march,” Mariani noted, explaining that in previous years, the participants were judged as they left the parade’s starting point.

Another change, according to Mariani, will be the amount of food available at the end of the parade route. In the past, hot dogs and baked goods were sold. This year, there will be hot dogs, sweet chili, cheeseburgers, hot chocolate, coffee, and various baked goods for sale at the Bainbridge Fire Company. “There’s going to be a lot of food there,” Mariani said. She encourages attendees to save up their appetites and eat at the parade, since the funds raised at the parade will go toward a good cause.

All proceeds from the parade will benefit the East Donegal/Conoy Christian Food Bank. There will also be collection points at the parade sign-up, along the parade route, and on the grounds of the fire company for those who wish to make donations.

Individuals who would like more information or who have questions may contact Mariani at 278-8484.
