Lecture About Indians Planned
On Monday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m., the Strasburg Heritage Society will host an illustrated lecture on "The Indians of Lancaster County," presented by historian Darvin Martin. Using illustrated pictures, Martin will take his audience to the sites where the Shenk Ferry Indians, Susquehannocks, Shawnee, and other Americans Indians had their villages. He will discuss their ways of life and their relationships with early European settlers. The lecture will also touch on early French traders, such as Ann LeTort and Martin Chartier, who had trading posts in Lancaster County. Martin has done extensive research on the local American Indians and published a booklet that will be available at the meeting. Martin has also led a number of bus trips to visit the American Indian sites. The meeting will be held in Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church, 101 S. Decatur St., Strasburg. The program is open to the public, free of charge, and individuals do not need to be a member of the heritage society to attend. Light refreshments will follow the program.
