50th Anniversary Weekend Slated
Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 5000 Simpson Ferry Road, Mechanicsburg, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the church's founding. A special weekend of activities will commence with an Anniversary Reunion Gala on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 7 to 11 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall for all current and former church members. The gala will provide an opportunity to visit with old friends and pastors. There will be dancing to the tunes of the 1950s and 1960s. Refreshments will be served. On Sunday, Nov. 1, at the 10:45 a.m. service, all members of Mt. Olivet congregation are invited to dress in 1950s attire. Anyone with a 1950s automobile is invited to bring their antique cars to the designated reserved area for everyone to enjoy that day. The special guest for the day will be Mt. Olivet's first pastor, the Rev. William Speers. Music will be furnished by the church's first organist, Dr. Charles Stoops. A covered dish will be served after church service.
