Annual Fall Fest Will Feature Big Top Theme ![]() Photo by Rick Hiduk By Rick Hiduk The Fall Fest at New Wine Christian Center (NWCC) on Blunston Lane in Hellam Township on Friday, Oct. 30, will follow a circus theme this year. Activities will begin at 6 p.m. "Under the Big Top" is billed as an all-fun, no-fear, family-friendly Halloween alternative, and the public is invited to attend. Attendance at the annual event has grown steadily since its inception, and organizers will utilize both the church and nearby Dixon Fellowship Hall to accommodate the increasing number of games for youths and activities for their parents. Children, from infants through sixth-graders, and their parents are encouraged to dress in circus attire and become part of the fun. Some costume suggestions include clowns, a trapeze artist, circus animals, and other characters that one would find under the Big Top. Gerry Black, who assists with NWCC's children's ministry, will serve as ringmaster for the event and, with help from his circus friends, will present a program geared toward children full of comedy and high jinks. Black is well over six feet tall and, with his stove-pipe hat, seems larger than life. "He's a big guy, but the kids just love him," said the Rev. Donna Ryan, whose husband, Barry Ryan serves as pastor of the church. There will be a three-in-one bounce castle behind the church. There will also be plenty of free food, such as hot dogs, vegetables, and homemade snacks. Popcorn and cotton candy will also be available. Church volunteers will conduct face painting and craft activities for children. A local farmer will provide two wagons for hayrides. All children must be accompanied by adults to the event, but parents and caregivers are welcome to take a break at the Higher Grounds Cafe in the fellowship hall, where they can enjoy snacks, coffee, cappuccinos, and other specialty drinks. The youngsters will catch up with the adults after they trick-or-treat their way down Candy Lane, a lighted walkway from the church to the fellowship hall, along which they can fill their bags and containers with sweet treats. There is no cost associated with the Under the Big Top Fall Fest. Blunston Lane is located off Route 462, just east of Hallam. Readers are asked to preregister for the event at www.newwinechristiancenter.org or by calling the church at 252-4148.
