Among the items on the auction block, which have been donated by local businesses, are four rounds of golf, gift certificates to local restaurants, jewelry, and gift baskets, including one from a beauty salon offering a manicure and a massage. All proceeds from the event will benefit the veterans who reside at the Coatesville VA Medical Center. "We called (the center) and we asked them what they needed, (so we decided to donate money) because they need toiletries and incidentals, Schemm said. The first-time event is being sponsored by KW Cares, a public charity that was originally created to support Keller Williams Realty associates and their immediate families suffering from hardship as a result of a sudden emergency. The charity also supports the Ryan's Well Foundation, an organization that provides clean and safe water in developing countries; the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust; and cancer research centers, including Johns Hopkins University and Memorial Sloan-Kettering. Locally, the Thorndale group has donated funds to the victims of the Coatesville fires. More information about the group can be found at www.kwcares.org. The Coatesville VA Medical Center provides a variety of health care services to veterans, including extended care, mental health services, a pharmacy, social work services and women's health programs.
