Vaccine Clinics Seek Volunteers
Dauphin County's Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is seeking both medical and nonmedical volunteers to help staff swine flu vaccination sites. The swine flu is also known as the H1N1 virus. The agency is compiling a list of potential volunteers in order to prepare for the vaccine's arrival in the area. The dates, times, and locations of vaccination sites have not yet been determined, and the arrival date of the H1N1 vaccine is still unknown. An estimated 36 medical persons and 66 nonmedical staff will be needed at each site, which is expected to include schools, malls, and community centers. Volunteers will be needed to organize paperwork, staff sign-in tables, register recipients, check identification, stock supplies, control traffic, maintain security, manage lines, and clean up. Volunteers who are medically licensed and certified will also be needed to dispense the vaccination. All volunteers must pass a background check. Anyone interested in volunteering is urged to contact Kirsten Cohick of EMA at kcohick@dauphinc.org to be added to the list. Additional details on shift hours, dates, and locations will follow as the planning continues. For more details on efforts to control the spread of the H1N1 virus, readers may visit www.H1N1inpa.com.
