Ironville United Methodist Church (UMC), 4020 Holly Drive, will host a holiday craft bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7. The fundraiser has been revived after a two-year break.

"Everyone is very excited about getting the bazaar going again," noted Ironville UMC member Carolyn Tingley, who has coordinated the vendors for the event, which is chaired by Diane Bennett.

In-house crafters Karen Doutt and Brenda Macbeth are anxious to see what outside vendors and other church members have to add to the items they have been working on, such as crocheted scrubbies, pot holders, and scarves; quilted pieces, including pillow cases adorned with crocheted snowflakes and a sock-monkey motif; sock snowmen; stuffed bears; and homemade cookies.

Tingley related that outside vendors will bring candles, homemade soaps, paintings, wreaths and other seasonal decorations, handcrafted wooden items, dolls, inspirational folk art, and tote bags to add to the merchandise that will be available for purchase. There will also be a white elephant sale of used items and a book sale.

"People are looking for Christmas items that don't cost a lot of money," suggested Doutt, who noted that an emphasis was placed on producing more smaller, affordable items for decorating and gift-giving.

In addition to Macbeth's pistachio chocolate chip cookies and other baked goods like apple dumplings that will be contributed by church members, hungry patrons will find hot dogs, barbecue, chicken corn soup, and hot and cold beverages on the menu.

Bob and Brenda Donough will manage the kitchen during the fundraiser. Jackie Royer will coordinate the white elephant sale, and Scott Macbeth will work with members of Boy Scout Troop 90 to cover setup and cleanup.

Craft committee members joked that it may sound unusual to say that profits from the bazaar will go down the drain, but, in a sense, it's true. All proceeds will be used to help the church cover the cost of a sewer hook-up project.

Ironville UMC has also announced that Thanksgiving services will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22. A holiday open house is slated for 9 and 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, Dec 6. The Christmas cantata will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20, and Christmas Eve services are slated for 5 and 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24.

The church on Holly Drive is accessible via Prospect Road and Ironville Pike. For more information, interested readers may call the church at 684-8072.
