Also attending were sophomores Andrew Walsh of Malvern (left) and Jackson Gordon of Devon (right). In addition to conducting the workshop, Yuskawskas played Cassius in the performance of “Julius Caesar” presented to Devon Prep students later that day.

Students at Devon Preparatory School got a closer look at Shakespeare's play “Julius Caesar,” which was presented recently by The Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival (PSF) in the school's gym.

PSF is a nonprofit professional theater company and the official Shakespeare Festival of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Following the 80-minute show, complete with sets and costumes, a discussion took place among the students, the actors and the director.

Prior to the performance, the actors conducted workshops for members of Devon Prep's sophomore class. Each student participated in two hands-on workshops, including “Stage Combat: The Illusion of Violence”; “Imagery and Contrast”; “Wild and Whirling Words: The Invention of Language”; and “Word Weaponry: Argument and Ammunition.”

Devon Prep is a private, Catholic, college preparatory school for young men in grades six to 12 conducted by the Piarist Fathers. Nearly 300 students from the five-county Philadelphia area attend the Chester County school.
