Stan Deen Will Speak At Cross Connection Banquet ![]() Photo by Ann Mead Ash By Ann Mead Ash "It is a time to celebrate what God has done," said Meredith Dahl, director of the Cross Connection Youth Center, 127 W. Franklin St., New Holland, of the ministrys upcoming banquet to be held on Tuesday, March 30, beginning at 6:15 p.m. at Shady Maple Banquet Center, 129 Toddy Drive, East Earl. Much has happened in the last year to give Dahl and others involved in the ministry reasons to celebrate. "How God has moved this year!" exclaimed Dahl, who listed a number of students who have come to know the Lord and are growing in their faith, as well as parents of students who have received help from the ministry. The center has also acquired a single family home beside the current building for use as a family resource center. The Cross, as the ministry is known, purchased the property at 123 W. Franklin St. at the end of January. The plan is to house an after-school tutoring program, a mentoring program, and a place where local families in need can find help. The ministry is currently in the midst of a capital campaign to raise the needed funds to pay off both properties. The theme of the banquet, which will feature a buffet meal, is "God's Faithfulness," and speaker Stan Deen will expound on that topic, according to Dahl. Deen is a retired teacher who served at Penn Manor, Solanco, and Garden Spot High School. Deen is well- known for his work in theater and for founding the Garden Spot Performing Arts (GSPA) program. He currently teaches at Veritas Academy and is an adjunct professor at Lancaster Bible College. Deen also continues to work with a number of theater groups throughout the county. Additional speakers will include Dahl, who will update attendees on the changes in the ministry. Three students who attend the Cross, as well as a parent of a student who attends, are also scheduled to speak. "The best part is to hear from the teens," said Dahl, who has seen a number of the teens who come to the center commit their lives to Christ. The Cross Connection Youth Center is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The center offers a half-pipe for skateboarders, pool tables, a half-court for basketball, and other games. A round table Bible discussion group, meals program, and opportunities to attend worship are also available. The Cross also takes some youths on a yearly field trip to Camp Orchard Hill in Dallas, Pa. Nearly 25 students and staff attended this year's WinterBlast at the camp, and two teens accepted Christ as their Savior during that trip. In addition to celebrating God's faithfulness, Dahl noted that the banquet can inform those who are not familiar with the ministry. A professionally produced video about the Cross has been made and will be shown at the event. Last year's banquet attracted 380 attendees and raised about $21,000 for the ministry. This year, organizers hope that as many as 500 people will attend and more funds will be raised. The banquet is free, but those wishing to attend should make reservations by Tuesday, March 23, by calling 556-2755, e-mailing newhollandcross@hotmail.com , or by making reservations through the Web site at www.newhollandcross.org. Table sponsorships are available, as well. New Holland Penny Saver - 03/03/2010 |
