Art Museum Sets Summer Schedule

The Susquehanna Art Museum, 301 Market St., Harrisburg, will host the eighth year of the Cartoon Academy's summer animation camps from Saturday, June 21, through Saturday, June 28. The academy will be taught by Fred Miles, owner of an animation studio.

Two separate camps will be offered. A weeklong camp will be designed for high school students from Monday, June 23, through Friday, June 27, and two half-day camps for middle school students on Saturdays, June 21 and 28. Students in the high school camp will learn and improve skills such as life drawing, character design, stronger character poses, storyboards, layouts, and perspective.

The middle school camps will have an emphasis on drawing cartoon characters and will experiment with animation using flip books and stop motion exercises. Students will be able to work alongside professional animators during camp and get a feel for the animation process.

The museum will also offer summer youth art classes that explore drawing, painting, sculpture, art history, and art appreciation and provide an art education experience where students have the opportunity to learn from original works of art in a museum setting. Classes will be available for youths ages 3 to 12 and will begin on Monday, June 9.

There will be an open house for all of the museum's summer art programs for participants and parents to visit the facility and meet the instructors on Thursday, May 29, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Reservations are requested.

Class registration for all summer programs is open, and forms are available by visiting www.sqart.org or by calling 233-8668, ext. 7. Early registration is encouraged, as space is limited.
