Free Skin Cancer Screenings Set

May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Approximately one million new cases of skin cancer will be diagnosed during 2008 in the United States. The most serious kind of skin cancer, melanoma, will kill an estimated 8,000 people. However, the disease is almost always preventable, and often treatable, if found early.

To encourage early detection of skin cancer, Lancaster General will partner with area dermatologists to offer a free skin cancer screening on Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to noon on the second floor of the Lancaster General Health Campus, 2100 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster. Any abnormalities discovered during the screening will be referred to a physician for proper follow-up.

For more information and to register, readers may call (800) 341-2121. Space is limited, and the screening usually fills early.
