Pequea Valley Plans Spring Alumni Weekend

The second Pequea Valley (PV) Spring Alumni Weekend will take place on Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17. The weekend will include a choral concert on Friday night and alumni games on Saturday, including baseball, girls’ and boys’ soccer, football and field hockey.

The event will begin on Friday evening, May 16, at 7:30 p.m. with the Pequea Valley High School Spring Choral Concert. The Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will perform in the high school auditorium. All Chamber Singers alumni who sang the song “That Lonesome Road” are invited to come and join together in one voice for the annual rendition.

Mark Williams, director of choral music at Pequea Valley High School, said that the Chamber Singers had performed the piece for the first time in the mid 1990s. The song became an all-time favorite of his students and is now the finale that concludes the Spring Choral Concert every year.

Immediately following the concert, a reception will be held in the school cafeteria featuring cookies and punch.

On Saturday, May 17, the day will get started with the alumni baseball game at noon on the varsity field. All alumni and former PV coaches are invited to return for the third annual game. Alumni who plan to play are asked to sign up by calling Daryl Blank at (717) 201-2565 by Saturday, May 10.

The action will then move to the stadium at 2:30 p.m. for the first girls’ soccer alumni game. Female soccer alumni players and former coaches are asked to contact Marsha Helm at (717) 419-1435 for more information and to sign up by Saturday, May 10.

At 4 p.m., the alumni football game will kickoff in the stadium. The third annual game will feature the alumni going up against the varsity team in a flag football game. The clock will be set for two 30-minute halves.

Any alumni football player wishing to participate should contact Erik Orndorff at PVIS at (717) 768-5535 by Friday, May 9. All current varsity players are asked to contact Coach Waltman.

The first ever field hockey alumni game will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the stadium on Saturday. All field hockey alumni and former coaches are asked to contact Aftan Fisher at (717) 682-4851 for more information and to sign up by Saturday, May 10.

The evening will conclude with the second boys’ soccer alumni game at 7 p.m. All players and former coaches are encouraged to call Matt Graham at (717) 354-6116 before Saturday, May 10, for more details.

The concession stand will be open throughout the day and everyone is invited to come out and support the Pequea Valley Athletic Association with their attendance and to enjoy the games and fellowship. There will be no admission charge for the games.
