Leon C. Landis Inc. Expands To Include Propane

After 58 years in business, Leon C. Landis Inc., 200 S. Church St., Quarryville, has expanded to include propane-fired appliances as a service to its customers.

The company has offered the service and installation of plumbing and fixtures, heating and air-conditioning, and water treatment systems. Now customers may choose from a full range of propane services, including the sale of furnaces, fireplaces, and water heaters, and the sale or lease of propane tanks. The company sells oil tanks and delivers fuel oil, propane, diesel, gasoline, and kerosene. Soon, the company will offer 24-hour service contracts on oil heating systems.

Robert Landis Jr. bought the business from his father, Robert Landis, in 2001. Robert Sr.'s father, Leon C. Landis, founded the company with his wife, Martha, on Feb. 1, 1950, 35 years after Leon's father, Christian Landis, began a career of hauling oil. Leon delivered oil, kerosene, and gasoline and later added heating, plumbing and air-conditioning services.

In 2006, Robert Jr. oversaw the company adding the service and delivery of propane, and in 2007, a showroom was created. In 2008, the company offers service contracts and the Tanksure program. With the employees' years of experience, all told, the company boasts over 250 years. Employees include Robert Landis, Robert Landis Jr., Tim Jackson, Jim Sheets Jr., Jeff Capoferri, Roy Kimes III, Doug Sorenson, Lucas Jackson, Goldie Landis, Karen Kennedy, Lori Landis, and Kathy Hershey, seven of whom are technicians with a combined experience of 125 years.

Leon C. Landis Inc. currently serves Lancaster, York, and Chester counties. Its technicians install Climate Master geothermal, Rheem, Burnham, Weil McClain, and Heil heating and air-conditioning, among others. The company has been a Gould's pump dealer since the 1960s.

The showroom is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays or by appointment. On display are propane and natural gas appliances, such as Lexington Forge fireplaces and freestanding stoves and Empire wall heaters, log sets, and Delta faucets.
