Wagontown Chapel To Present Ladies’ Night

By Francine Fulton

Wagontown Chapel, located on Route 340 in Wagontown, will present Ladies’ Night on Saturday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m.  The event will feature a performance by singer/actress Karen Knight.

According to Pastor Tim Crans of Parkesburg, the event is open to all local women.  There will be no admission fee, but a freewill offering will be accepted.

“She will present a concert/drama,” Crans said, noting Knight is best known for her role as Mrs. Noah in Sight and Sound’s production of “Noah, The Musical.”

Knight, who creates presentations based on the lives of women in the Bible, will perform “Out of the Kitchen, Into the Heart” based on Martha of Bethany, whose brother, Lazarus, was raised from the dead by Jesus.  In the Bible story, Martha busied herself preparing food and waiting on the guests, while her sister, Mary, sat at Jesus’ feet.

According to the description of Knight’s program “the hostess is preparing a feast for a king while she struggles with feelings of resentment, over-commitment and lack of good help. In song and story, Knight will bring to life her encounter with a special dinner guest who teaches her how to manage her time, while changing her heart.”

In addition to appearing as Mrs. Noah at Sight and Sound, located in Strasburg, Lancaster County, Knight has portrayed Elisabeth in “The Miracle of Christmas,” Mary in “Behold the Lamb” and Governess Chisleu in “Daniel.”  Knight has also performed in regional theaters and productions across the United States. She was featured in “Soup, Soap and Salvation,” a musical/drama detailing the history of the founding of the Rescue Mission in Roanoke, Va., and “The Sound of Music” in Las Vegas, Nev.

Crans noted that the church has always held a Spring Women’s Banquet for its female congregation members, but this is the first time it has opened the program portion of the event to the public.  In January, the church sponsored a Sportsmen’s Night, which targeted local (mostly male) hunters.

“We wanted to do something special for the women,” Crans said.

Wagontown Chapel is a nondenominational Bible-believing church. Crans, whose father was also a pastor, arrived at the church in 1999 when he was named youth pastor.  In 2004, he became the senior pastor.

On Sundays, morning worship is held at 10:45 a.m.  There is also Sunday school offered at 9:30 a.m. Sunday evening services are held at 6 p.m. Youth group meetings are held at 6:50 p.m. on Wednesdays, and there is also Bible study offered on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

The church houses Wagontown Country Day Care, which has more than 100 students enrolled.  The school is currently accepting registrations for kindergarten this fall. The church property also includes a teen center that offers area youths a safe place to hang out, play games and enjoy pool and ping-pong.

The public is invited to attend any worship service or Bible study, and Crans encourages all local women to attend the upcoming presentation.

“We want to invite all ladies in the area who can come. It’s for young and old,” Crans said, noting the drama will take place in the church sanctuary.
