Elverson Walking Club Part Of Chester County Senior Games
Members of the Elverson Walking Club (EWC) will be part of the 26th annual Chester County Senior Games that will take place on Thursday, May 15, at the Church Farm School located along Business Route 30 east of Exton. This is the sixth year that EWC will host the Frisbee competition that will be featured during the event.
Clyde Godschall, EWC founder and hike leader, noted that volunteers are still needed to help with scorekeeping and “Frisbee chasing.” Volunteers will be asked to work between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Senior Games, sponsored by the Chester County Commissioners and the Chester County Department of Aging Services, is a sports and recreation competition for Chester County residents age 50 and older.

will begin at 8:30 a.m. with volunteer and participant check-in, followed by
the opening ceremony at 9 a.m. The
morning’s events will begin at 9:30 a.m.
In addition to Frisbee, the games will include bocce, horseshoes, a
softball throw, Checkers, Scrabble, bingo and a football throw. Other board games will be available on a non-competitive
basis.
Following lunch at noon, the afternoon events that will begin at 1 p.m. will include darts, table tennis, shuffleboard, bingo, hot shot basketball and a Frisbee accuracy throw.
The Chester County Senior Games will also include events over two weeks, beginning Monday, May 12, with a golf outing at the Moccasin Run Golf Club in Atglen and a badminton event at the Phoenixville Area YMCA.
Other events will include the following: Wednesday, May 14, swimming at the Brandywine YMCA, Coatesville, and a track competition at Downingtown West High School; Tuesday, May 20, bowling at the Bowling Palace in Downingtown; and Wednesday, May 21, and Thursday, May 22, tennis events at Tennis Addition in Exton.

In addition to its work at Senior Games day, members of the EWC have scheduled various events for the month of May.
On Wednesday, May 7, members of the EWC will present a brief program on geocaching at 1 p.m. at the Village Library in Morgantown. After the program, participants will go outdoors and search for caches on library grounds.
On Saturday, May 10, Godschall will lead a hike of three to four miles at French Creek Sate Park in Elverson. Attendees should meet Godschall at the west boat launch area at the park. Walkers will cross the new bridge over French Creek at the dam and then loop around Hopewell Lake on several blazed trails. Pets will be welcome on this hike.
On Saturday, May 17, the group will visit the Sadsbury Woods Preserve along with members of the King of Prussia Ski Club. Rain date is Sunday, May 18.
Participants should meet Godschall 10 a.m. at the Wawa located on Route 30, west of Coatesville at the junction with Route 10 (on the northwest corner). Attendees are reminded that there will be one water crossing during the hike. Pets will be welcome.
After the three- to four-mile walk at the preserve, hikers will visit a member’s home for a brief lunch and social hour. Friends and guests are welcome. Reservations are required by contacting event organizer Michele Grant by e-mailing ntlmichele@juno.com or calling (610) 905-2666. The lunch is limited to 25 people. Deadline for registration is Monday, May 12.
On Tuesdays during the month of May, club members will take part in exploratory walks in local parks and/or geocaching locally for one or two caches. They will also perform trail maintenance, weather permitting. For more information about Tuesday events, interested individuals are asked to contact Godschall.
